Simple & Up-to-Date Classic Style
Can you feel the changes taking place? Here in the northeast our cool spring is finally giving way to warmer weather. This means Memorial Day weekend is upon us with the unofficial start of summer fun.
Let’s chat about the festive side of the holiday with my take on a classic summery table setting. The design, on the whole, is classic with a little modern infused with red bromeliad plants. The centerpiece is flexible too. You can swap out items as you’ll find out below.
Table Setting
The pattern on pattern tabletop fabrics are classic but add whimsy. Using classic white traditional dishes with clear blue glass dishes adds a lightweight feel to the overall look. The glassware is, well, just fun, light, and breezy.
**Fun Note** None of the table items are overly costly. When selecting pieces for table decorating or setting, the end product should feel wonderful and well thought out. A $10.00 plate looks perfect when the other elements are just right. That is the design muscle to hone. The correct design editing makes all the difference.
Centerpiece
I realize I mentioned “simple.” So when you see the centerpiece, remain calm! …Haha! This is inspiring you to create your own version. The items can be found at supermarkets (produce) or local florists (plant-life). The best suggestion… go with what you have and already know…Relax and make this your beautiful piece.
For example, in the image, I used a large white ceramic compote. You can (especially if you plan on keeping the centerpiece on the table while dining), us a white platter or white marble cheese board. To lower the height, even more, grab a few red geraniums instead of the bromeliads plants (pictured). You can add the peppers and tuck foliages, in the dirt, around the plant containers, and the peppers. There is always a solution or another method to create your very own design. The geranium idea is fantastic as they require a lot less fuss as you will see in the video.
Creating your very own design is absolutely rewarding. Doing so inspires joy, a sense of accomplishment, and your guests will love the addition of a beautiful visual.
The full design, in the video below, remained lovely for 2 weeks. The peppers were cooked a day after shooting this design (really do not like to waste). I just re-arranged my greenery to cover the oasis where the peppers were removed. Once the greenery was “past-it” the piece was discarded. If geraniums are purchased, replant in your garden containers and enjoy all summer long.
