A beautiful Menorah, the central icon of the celebration of lights, has had many incarnations over the years in contemporary family circles. The celebration’s dinners and gatherings over the years call out for a new and up-to-date design.
Celebrating with an enriched vessel holding the holiday candles within lush flowers brings heartwarming feelings when displayed at the family table. Adding dimensionality with aged vessels in metal and wood with hand-forged dinnerware, collectively brings a departure from the known past designs.
After all, a festival of lights celebratory dinner needs to uplift guests, inspire joy, and feel peaceful.
The inspiration is simply taken from modern interiors cues of today and reinforced with neutrals and the (my favorite color) pale and medium blues.
The captions below give some insight into the thoughts that brought one of my favorite designs to life this season.
I hope you enjoy the design as much as I enjoyed creating it.
To all my dear friends of Jewish faith: May you have the spirit of Hanukkah which is Peace, the gladness of Hanukkah which is Hope, and the Heart of Hanukkah which is Love, fill your Homes Today and every day.
The design began with a wooden flower vessel from Magnolia Home in a dark espresso color. To lighten the design and carry the accessories and modern menorah, a chambray-like runner was chosen to play up the hand-forged dinnerware.
Here a closeup up of the florals and accents. I chose succulents (echeveria) with white ranunculus, bleached and preserved ruscus, blue hydrangea, with dusty miller and small faux jewels in neutral tones for a bit of sparkle.
Votive candles were in an aqua-turquoise antique glass, ceramic flowers in blue and off-white and black metal flower vessels and lanterns pulled color directly from dinnerware, accessories and faux antique-like finishes
Interesting fresh elements were selected like the deep green tropical leaves to speak to the deeper tones found throughout.
Soft fuzzy dusty-miller (Artemesia) adds more visual texture and a nod to the traditional silver accents of Hanukkah.
Here faux antique chargers are chosen for their simplicity and texture
Napkins with their hemlines embellished with more “antique” silver champagne details. Small pearls at the trim speak to the tiny pearls pins used to hold the neutral tone “jewels” within the flowers.
The mantle receives a beautiful design and candles that capture the moment beautifully.
