An incredible display of pure fashion. Not what we are used today with shows of late. Artistic expression only in the form of clothing. Which in today’s climate of social distancing video shows and designers going over the top with visual expressions surrounding their defilé.
On this first day of Milan Fashion Week we see a clean expression of women’s wear focused on day time. Fluid romantic textural silhouettes, playfully portrayed with men’s wear influences and brought together with the underlying theme of the infamous Italian relaxed tailoring.
An incredibly relaxed warm palette of sienas, mustards, olive, tobacco and black were beautifully peppered with deep laptist and muted carnelian blue with flashes of gold finishings against woolen and leather pieces. A larger surprise of gold in the most beautiful shimmering golden sequin and large payette embroidered gown and an evening pant paired with a textural knit piece as well. Absolute sheer joy in the midst of an ebony portaioral of evening wear.
Both the styling and individual pieces used volume and layers to convey a type of “cocooning” as I refer to it. The day-time looks felt warm a comforting as is Alberta wants her women to feel safe yet reassured as we emerge from the past world health crisis. That security was captivating as each look demanded you see it with sheer confidence and style oozing from every flounce of voluminous fabrics. Most models were covered head to toe in fabrics and boots. Legs concealed behind pants under the aforementioned skirts and dresses, high-neck blouses, knitwear and gorgeous shearling coats. Giving in more emphasis to the idea of protection.
The layering continued with thick fringed cut fabrics and leather on both bags and separates. The bags were masters in their statement. Large gathered and gusseted bags gripped under the arm and looked amply-stylish and ready for maximum fall statement against the soft silhouettes.
The collection’s strength is found in the everyday piece’s fabric finishes and techniques. Lacquered, crocheted, sequined, gathers of silk evoking strength through fabric and construction.
Women want to feel beautiful yet powerful and Alberta Ferretti brought that to the forefront.
